WHO ARE WE?
We at RUPS (Righteous Utrecht Party for Students) want to make life as good as possible for as many students as possible. We do this through concrete plans that tackle challenges directly. As a new party, we address issues that were previously ignored. Why? Because this time calls for pragmatic leadership and change. Scroll down to see our positions.

SAFETY FIRST
It is unacceptable that students still do not always feel safe to be who they want to be. We thus protect initiatives that make the university a safer place. These may never be erased due to budget cuts. Furthermore, we highly value freedom of speech, to protest and to express yourself - which are all crucial in these troubling times.
A MEAL FOR €3,50
As a student, you’ll often be faced with unfairly expensive food on campus. This is because contracts with food suppliers do not benefit students. This has to change. RUPS wants to guarantee at least one meal for €3,50 in each UU-owned canteen. The university owns its own ground, already eliminating a large part of the costs - next the contracts need to be done away with.
DEMOCRATIZATION
Students deserve more than just one vote a year. RUPS wants student representation that makes a real difference: with concrete powers, ongoing involvement, and a board that takes student input seriously. When it comes to major decisions and the appointment of key board members, RUPS wants advisory referendums. That way, students’ voices will count even outside the councils.
RESPONSIBLE UU-AI
Like it or not - AI is here to stay. RUPS wants the UU to take ownership of this. A dedicated, responsible AI tool can serve the needs of students. RUPS wants the UU to adopt an accessible AI-chatbot free from commercial (American) dependencies with the university retaining control. At the same time, assessment methods - like exams - must be adapted so that students’ analytical thinking is measured, instead of how well they can prompt a chatbot.
