Rups means caterpillar in Dutch,
hence our cute mascot

SAFETY FIRST
It is unacceptable that students still do not always feel safe to be who they want to be. We thus protect initiatives that make the university a safer place. These may never be erased due to budget cuts. Furthermore, we highly value freedom of speech and expression - which are both crucial in these troubling times.
DROP THE STRICT 5.5 NORMS
It is bizarre that a student can face delays due to just one decimal point on an exam, while a 5.4 hardly reflects their true abilities. Personal circumstances should be taken into account, and exams should no longer be the sole deciding factor in proving a student’s skills. Finally, you should be able to offset insufficient grades with other grades from the same subject.
STOP THE SPAR MONOPOLY
Students who live on or take classes at Science Park are stuck with the most expensive supermarket chain in The Netherlands. For many students, simply grocery shopping is a larger inconvenience than it should be. Additionally, the Spar creates a lack of essential provisions due to their limited assortment, and the university does not allow alternative stores to open. We want more access to a larger variety of grocery stores.
FREE PUBLIC TRANSIT
International students pay the same rent as local students and contribute just as much to the university community. Yet, they do not receive the same compensation. Providing free public transit, which local students also receive, promotes equal opportunity and eases the financial burden. This also gives international students the opportunity to get to know the country they study in, instead of just Utrecht.
BETTER INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
We aim to protect and further invest in initiatives that foster relations between local and international students. This includes the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), the Buddy Program, and AEGEE-Utrecht. International relations also means that Utrecht University should critically re-evaluate ties with other universities.
REFERENDUMS
Students often have no idea what the university council is discussing. Through a monthly referendum in the form of a poll via email, students can stay informed about the council’s topics and share their opinions with just two clicks.
